Simple Apple Oregano Turkey

Apple Oregano Turkey

I love love me some turkey! The one thing I looked forwarded to when it started to get a little chilly outside was.. the turkey! As an adult, I've been committed to create my own taste to the tradition. There is just so much untapped potential being used at the centerpiece of everyone's holiday dinner. This is my first year as a married woman and I was so excited to create this masterpiece for our first holiday as a family and I'm very please with how it turned out!

You will need:

- Turkey

- 1-2 Honey crisp apples

- 1 Whole lemon

- 3-5 Garlic

- Himalayan salt

- Oregano

How to make Apple Oregano Turkey

I am all about keeping it simple and easy because I've got other things to do, especially during the holiday meal making.

First you want to make sure that baby is thawed. If its been frozen, it may need about 48-72 hours to thaw depending on how big it is. Preheat the oven for 350 degree Fahrenheit. Place the turkey in a turkey pan with it sitting on a lifted frame. I removed all the extra goodies in the turkey cavity.

We are going to tenderize the meat with the Himalayan salt. Grind some of that salt and get some in your hand and pat it on the walls of the turkey cavity and grind some on the surface of the breast and extremities.

Chop the apples and lemons into slices and garlic clove and stuff them in the body cavity. Keep the extra neck skin and stuff it inward as it will act as a seal to hold heat and aroma. Lastly, slightly sprinkle the oregano over the top surface of the turkey body. If you have whole leave, those should go in the body cavity, as well.

Once the oven is ready, cover the turkey with aluminum foil and cook at 350 for 2-2.5 hours. After that time, remove foil and cook at 415 for the last 1-1.5 hours.

Baking the Turkey

Once the oven is ready, cover the turkey with aluminum foil and cook at 350 for 2.5- 3 hours. After that time, remove foil and cook at 415 for the last 1-1.5 hours. Increasing the temperature at the last hour, really crisps the skin and makes the meat fall off the bone. Yum!

Of course, make sure the meat has a core temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit before serving.

Health Benefits of Turkey

- Turkey is a very rich source of lean protein. niacin, and vitamin B6 and the amino acid tryptophan. The skinless white meat is low in fat and an excellent source of high protein. Aside from these nutrients, it also contains zinc and vitamin B12.
